Professor Marcus Dahlem, Microsystems Engineering Program Marcus Dahlem's research interests include electronic-photonic integrated circuits, on-chip optical interconnects, integrated photonic components (modulators, switches, resonators, delay lines, detectors), near-field optics, and optical sensors.

Jaime Viegas
Assistant Professor, Microsystems Engineering

Professor Jaime Viegas, Microsystems Engineering Program Jaime Viegas' research interests include design, simulation and fabrication of integrated photonic circuits in silicon, doped-silica, III-V semiconductors and metal oxide semiconductors. The main focus of research is on sensing applications of integrated and fiber optical devices. Dr. Viegas is also actively involved in nanoscale characterization of novel metal oxide materials for transparent thin-film transistors and fuel cell applications and is also coordinating a team of researchers in designing new aluminum nitride piezoactuator ultrasonic devices.

He has a vast experience in the fabrication anc characterization of metal oxide materials for thin film transistors.

Sueda Saylan
PhD Student, Microsystems Engineering

Sueda Saylan, Graduate Student, Microsystems Engineering Sueda Saylan is working on light management and trapping to develop thermodynamically efficient designs for better solar energy conversion. Her research interests also include light-matter interactions for developing solar cell structures with enhancing efficiency, as well as structure-induced properties of thin film materials for photovoltaic applications.

 

 

 


Raquel Flores
PhD Student, Microsystems Engineering

Raquel Flores, Ph.D. Student, Microsystems Engineering Raquel Flores is working in nanofabrication techniques for applications in sensing and energy production and storage. She has been actively involved in the development of ZnO ALD deposition of coatings on optical fibers for chemical selective sensing.

 

 

 



Ricardo Janeiro

Ricardo Janeiro, Ph.D. Student, Microsystems Engineering Ricardo is working in nanofabrication techniques for applications in photonic sensing. He is actively involved in Focused Ion Beam (FIB) fabrication of nanophotonic diffractive elements in the tip of optical fibers.

Pabitra is working on the simulation on nanophotonic structures for photochemical conversion. To validate the results of his simulations he is fabricating these nanostructures to be used in water splitting.

Mateusz is working on the design, simulation and characterization of piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers for applications in microfluidics, biomedical imaging and biometrics. He is also actively engaged in the microfabrication of transparent thin-film transistors based on metal oxide semiconductors.

Peng Xing
Alumnus, MSc in Microsystems Engineering

Peng Xing developed during his MSc a new method for minimizing the thermal drift of silicon photonics interferometers. He worked in all levels of photonic developmen cycle, from the design, simulation, fabrication to the final characterization of his devices. He is currently a PhD student in Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Ajymurat Orozaliev
Alumnus, MSc in Microsystems Engineering

Ajymurat Orozaliev , Alumnus, MSc Microsystems Engineering Ajymurat Orozaliev is currently a research engineer at New York University Abu Dhabi. He graduated from Masdar in 2013, working in characterization of chalcogenide glasses for integrated photonics applications.
